Luke Stephenson MSOE, MIRTE · Founder and Principal Consultant

I can see the business decision, the operational impact and the technical detail.

Luke Stephenson MSOE, MIRTE founded LS Fleet & Business Solutions after a career that began in commercial vehicle engineering in June 2006. More than 20 years later, I have progressed from Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Apprentice and Master Technician into workshop, fleet, engineering and national network leadership.

I have managed fleets and customer portfolios with different requirements, budgets and priorities, while remaining accountable for repair and maintenance, procurement, suppliers, people, cost and performance.

LS Business leadership.
Operational control.
Engineering understanding.

I look at the business as a whole, then make sure the detail underneath it supports the direction.

At strategic level, I consider customers, market change, investment, risk, growth, people and the long term needs of the business. At operational level, I look at workload, systems, suppliers, performance and accountability. At technical level, I can test the vehicle, job, evidence and engineering decision.

That range matters. A budget decision affects maintenance. A customer promise affects workshop capacity. A supplier contract affects vehicle availability. A technical failure can expose a much wider weakness in process, competence or control.

I am comfortable working with business owners and directors, supporting a management team, challenging a supplier or speaking with the people doing the work. My role is to connect those views and help the business make better decisions.

Senior responsibility

Accountability across the whole operation.

My senior roles have covered the commercial, operational and technical controls needed to manage fleets and customer commitments properly.

Fleet & customer portfolios

Balancing different customer promises, vehicle types, utilisation, service requirements and commercial priorities.

02

Repair & maintenance

Strategy, maintenance control, compliance, quality, downtime, whole life cost and performance across internal and external delivery.

03

Budgets & accountability

Developing, owning and controlling capital and operating budgets, forecasts, investment cases and financial performance.

04

Procurement & suppliers

Sourcing strategy, contracts, service levels, due diligence, pricing, performance, escalation and long term supplier relationships.

05

People & organisations

Structures, leadership, workload, competence, succession, accountability, culture and management development.

06

Strategy & change

Connecting customer need, market movement, business opportunity, risk and investment to practical operational delivery.

Career journey

Technical experience that grew into business leadership.

Each stage added a different view of how decisions affect customers, safety, cost, people, assets and service.

01 From 2006

Apprentice to Master Technician

I started my HGV apprenticeship in June 2006 and progressed to Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Level 4 Master Technician, working on commercial vehicles and trailers in workshop and roadside environments with a particular strength in electrical diagnosis.

02 Workshop leadership

People, compliance & output

I moved into VMU and workshop management with responsibility for people, maintenance, inspections, compliance, body and paint, warranty, customer work and daily delivery.

03 Fleet leadership

Customers, fleet & budgets

My responsibilities grew to include mixed fleets and customer portfolios with different operating needs, asset profiles, budgets and service commitments, alongside repair and maintenance control and financial accountability.

04 National responsibility

Networks, suppliers & strategy

I led across internal workshops, mobile engineering, field teams, manufacturers and large third party repair networks, with responsibility for procurement, supplier performance, cost, risk and customer delivery.

05 Senior engineering

Whole function accountability

Senior roles brought accountability for engineering strategy, people, safety, compliance, fleet performance, capital and operating budgets, facilities, systems, procurement and business improvement.

06 Today

Independent leadership & delivery

I now use that experience to review operations, fill leadership gaps, audit and investigate, support bids, lead projects and help clients turn agreed improvements into working practice.

How I work

Direct, practical and involved beyond the report.

Understand the direction

I start with the business, its customers, market, pressures and ambitions, not a predetermined answer.

Go and see the work

I spend time where the work happens and listen to the people who understand it.

Prove the position

I test what I am told against systems, documents, cost, condition and performance.

Build it together

I bring ideas and better practice, but shape the solution with the client team so it works in their business.

Help deliver it

I can stay involved to put the agreed controls into the operation, monitor whether they are working and help stabilise the change.

Share & develop

I share what I know, coach managers and help the client team take ownership so the improvement does not depend on me remaining there.

Keep looking forward

I want long term partnerships that help businesses respond to markets, introduce new opportunities and keep improving.

Working with trusted specialists

The client should not have to find every answer alone.

Where a matter needs expertise outside my own scope, I can work alongside appropriately qualified independent specialists and partner businesses.

This may include expert witness input, specialist engineering, safety, systems, legal or other professional support. Every requirement is scoped and agreed clearly, with LS Fleet & Business Solutions helping to coordinate the right people around the client.

Qualifications and professional standing

Built from the workshop floor upwards.

I do not rely on qualifications to tell the whole story. They support a career that started with a heavy vehicle apprenticeship and developed through engineering, vehicle operations, management and senior business leadership.

The combination matters to clients because I can understand the technical evidence, the operational consequences and the wider commercial decision.

01
